DO WE NEED A NEW BUILDING? Yes. Our present building is over 60 years old and was built to accommodate 250 families. Today we are approaching 900 families and the needs and desires of our congregants have changed. Often the sanctuary cannot accommodate our Shabbat worshippers and we do not have a small sanctuary where alternative services can be held. More than 600 children and hundreds of adults attend class each week and we do not have sufficient space to meet their educational needs. (Back to Top) WHAT WILL A NEW TEMPLE OFFER? A new building will provide us with approximately 42,500 square feet, compared to our present 22,000 foot facility today, adding more capacity in the sanctuary with seating closer to the pulpit, and adding a small sanctuary in our Beit Midrash to provide opportunities for alternative worship and the intimacy for funerals and lifecycle events. Additional Nursery School facilities and classrooms and more communal space for receptions and meetings and gatherings will become a reality. The building will be handicapped accessible and have modern sound and HVAC systems. We are looking to make the building as “green” as financially feasible. (Back to Top) WHAT WILL THE NEW BUILDING COST? In today’s dollars we estimate $25,000,000. (Back to Top) HOW MANY FAMILIES WILL THE NEW BUILDING ACCOMMODATE? The design for our new home will be approximately 42,500 square feet, almost double the size of our present building. We estimate that it will serve approximately 1100 families comfortably which will allow for future growth. (Back to Top) WILL OUR NEW BEIT ELOHIM BE “GREEN”? Our new Temple will incorporate the use of sustainable materials where ever feasible. HaBonim, our building committee, has made the decision not to seek LEED Certification due to the associated costs; however, flooring, lighting, heating and air conditioning, landscaping and parking areas will reflect our desire to be environmentally conscientious. (Back to Top) WHEN WILL THE ACTUAL CONSTRUCTION BEGIN? We would like to begin construction during the summer of 2009 but the ultimate answer rests with the generosity of members of the congregation. Our Makom committee has discussed needing $17,000,000 in cash and pledges before we break ground. We anticipate moving into our new building approximately 16 months after the beginning of construction. (Back to Top) WILL THERE BE AN ASSESSMENT? We believe that members of our community will be generous in supporting this comprehensive campaign; therefore, there are no plans for instituting an assessment at this time. (Back to Top) WILL TBE TAKE ON DEBT OR A MORTGAGE BECAUSE OF THE NEW BUILDING? While the generosity of congregants will fund this project, there will be times when more cash will be needed than has been received from pledge payments to pay for construction. Outside financing is being investigated. It is the desire of the Temple’s leadership to minimize its need to borrow funds. The leadership also does not want to place any undue burden on our yearly dues. (Back to Top) ARE WE PLANNING TO PURCHASE THE APARTMENT COMPLEX AND OTHER HOUSES ON BETHEL ROAD? Our architects have assured us that a warm, beautiful new temple can be built without using the apartment complex land. However, for future generations the acquisition of the land surrounding the Temple would be desirable and is being investigated. (Back to Top) HOW WILL MY GIFT BE RECOGNIZED? All donors will be recognized in the new building. Naming opportunities are provided in a separate document. Our recognition program will be consistent with our culture and complements the design of the building. (Back to Top) WILL WE NEED TO RELOCATE DURING CONSTRUCTION? The new building will be located in what is now the parking lot area, also referred to by our Architects as “the bowl.” Construction for our new Beit Elohim will be able to proceed while we remain in our current facility. The Bayit Z’mani (Logistics Committee), has made alternative parking arrangements during the construction of our new Beit Elohim as very few spaces will be available on site. (Back to Top) HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO PAY MY PLEDGE? We would like pledges honored over a five year period of time. Some have asked for a few more years. Gifts of cash and stock are being accepted. (Back to Top) HOW ARE THE CAMPAIGN FUNDS BEING MANAGED? The Campaign funds are being managed via a separate account from our operating accounts. Accounting systems track the construction/development budget on a line-by-line basis. As Campaign funds are received they have been deposited in our Building/Capital Campaign account at Century Bank.
